Yesterday, Mose and Lew saw their first snow! There wasn't much of it, and Mose (who has had a tummybug of some kind this week) couldn't go out in it. But it was still a big deal. Flurries, through the window. SNOW! Made us miss our homes in Iowa City and Baltimore.

But even bigger than SNOW!!! was the fact that while Mama was taking a picture of Mose watching the snow (barely visible in the pic anyway), Lew STOOD UP!

He was like, "Hey, hey Mose, what's the big deal? I want to see, yo!" and he stood up to look through the window.

!!!

Swear to God!

Xmas in the Keys is wonderful, but a little weird.

It was a wonderful day, what with the global warming and the visitors from far away (hey, Jory!)... a lot of swinging was done, and a bit of noshing. Sam showed Lew how to crawl and Lew showed Sam how to drool and then Jasper and Mose crawled under the table.

Momentous occasion!!! Lew ate his first food (besides delicious mama-juice, of course). He tried a bit of mashed yam, since it is, after all, November...

Papa held him while Mama shoved a funny metal object in his face. It was weird and drooly and funny tasting, but in the end, he did it! He swallowed a bit.

Then he went to lie down and recover.

It's a rare treat when Mose and Lew can spend the weekend with Daddy. He works soooooooooooooooooooo hard. But a few weeks back, Daddy took them to the ZOO! (notice Mose ended the day in different pants from the ones he *started* the day in. Oh Mose!)

After the fun sad day, their was a fun FUN day!

It began with breakfast, with Abbie and Bea, at Solstice... and ended up at Noah's Ark, which is a cool place full of animals. For our friend Gianni's BIRTHDAY!

(Noah's Ark is also full of wacko fundamentalist Christians, so be warned. But the lion and two of the llamas are Jewish, so we didn't feel TOO weird)

This week, Lewis and Mose and Mama went to Chattanooga, for a sad sad reason. An old friend of Mama's, Ken Smith, passed away...

And so the boys attended their first funeral.

They did not understand the sadness, and found the funeral to be FUN! Mose read books with Winnie, the daughter of an old friend of Mama's. And Lewis rolled around in some really nice grass.

He generally remembers his lunchbox, but sometimes he "remembers" to take other things too. His truck. The cat.

Each morning, he checks on a little watermelon growing at the door to the Ormewood School.

Nothing makes Lew happier than when Mose shares with him. Yesterday, Mose shared the SLIDE!

Okay, so maybe Lew couldn't do much with it. But it did make his hair kinda static-y. Pretty cool!

Mose and Lew both want to move to the park. Mose is planning to live in a tent under the swingset. Lew wants to live in a lap.

We feel VERY bad about the lack of pics lately. Our battery charger for our camera has gone missing, and I REFUSE to spend 40 dollars on a new one when I absolutely KNOW that the old one is here somewhere.

But last night I charged up the batteries at a friend's house, and now there are pictures again.

Of ROSH HASHANAH!!!

Yes indeed, it's the new year again, and so we went to services yesterday. Mose sang and danced, and Lewis was very well behaved.

Then, last night, we went to Mira's house, for brisket and apple cake and matzah balls and honey and yum yum yum. Mose LOVES meringues. And he and Lewis also love Mira and Jasper and Shoshana and Marco. It was a wonderful way to spend the holiday.

Thanks so much for having us, Elizabeth! Yom Kippur is at my place!

Lew Loves New York!!!

Lew went to New York, to meet with his agent and editor, and MAN! he had fun. Subway cars, backyard lazydays in Brooklyn (yes, a tree , Random House and a swanky Pan-Asian joint (Lew loves Pan-Asian, dontcha know!) Then ice cream at Louie Gs (which should be called Lewey-G's) and the train home...

Lew likes the travel.DOES grow in Brooklyn, not to mention some grass)

While in Baltimore, Lew went for a boat ride with the family, and a stroll around Fell's Point with Momma and Mose. He even had lunch at Jimmy's Diner with Gramps, though he's a mite too young for the special. No crab cakes for Lew!!!

Lew's Boppy lives in a beautiful garden in Baltimore, full of tiny tomatoes and giant cucumbers (even bigger than Lew!). Lew is too little to eat them, but he dangled around the garden with Momma, while his brother Mose got tangled up in beans, ate a sour apple, and generally scampered. Aunt Em came along too, and Phoebe the trashhound.

Too bad *you* weren't there.

Lewis spent a whole day at the Firestone station. A WHOLE day. His mommy got pretty cranky, but Lew didn't miss a beat.

Because she couldn't make it to his bris, Aunt Em had to come on down to Atlanta and inspect Lew for defects.

Lewis is Jewish, and so when he was exactly eight days old, something very confusing happened to him. Involving a knife and some funny words. But his mom and dad were there to make sure everything went okay, and a variety of grandparents and friends were there to watch.

After, Lew took a nap with his cool Uncle Roy.
